Party Til You Drop

“It’s much, much worse,” Sora insisted. Beside him, Ventus nodded in vehement agreement, eyes big.

Terra sighed. “Just what is the difference between gathering synthesis pieces in the Dwarf Woodlands and at Castle of Dreams?”

“The dwarves make fun of me,” Ventus answered immediately.

“I get that song they sing stuck in my head for like a week,” Sora complained.

“Spiderchests,” Ventus added.

“More than once, a tree has slapped my ass,” Sora said.

Terra couldn’t get a word in between their rapid volley of complaints, until he finally held both hands up. Sora and Ventus fell silent, exchanging a look out of the corners of their eyes.

“I don’t know why you rehearse all those excuses like I’m Master Yen Sid or something,” Terra said, long-suffering. “Just say you want to go to the ball.”

“We want to go to the ball!” Sora and Ventus chorused.

“Why is that so appealing?” Terra wanted to know, hands on his hips. “It’s the same party every single time. You’ve been to it a dozen times!”

“Because it’s a party?” Sora answered. “What’s there to get? There’s music, and food, and fancy outfits—”

“I’m gonna ask Cinderella to dance!” Ventus declared.

Sora snorted. “All yours. I’m going for Prince Charming.”

“Sora!” Ventus gasped, laughing.

“Listen, you two,” Terra interrupted, at the end of his patience. “I don’t care who gathers which Shimmering Crystals from which Spiderchests, but the person you have to convince is—”

“Me,” Aqua announced from behind Sora and Ventus, making them whirl around. She had her hands on her hips, which were already covered in a very dashing blue suit, fit for any ball. “If you two want to tag along, that’s fine, but if it’s a contest about who gets to dance with the princess, we’ll see about that, hm?”

“Speaking of people who’ve been to that party too many times,” Terra said in an undertone. Aqua raised her eyebrow, and Terra turned to go. “I’m out, work it out yourselves.”
