Waterga and Other Disasters

“Shower first!” Riku ordered. His firm voice might have been enough to stop two-year-old Yozora, but not four-year-old Yozora, and certainly had no effect on his husband. “Shower first!”

Yozora and Sora both barreled into Riku like unruly Meow Wows, hugging Riku tight with hands and arms muddy from gardening. Riku groaned as half the garden got smudged against his nice, white Master’s teaching robes.

His formerly white robes, actually.

“Welcome back!” Yozora chirped, grinning up at Riku.

“We missed you!” Sora exclaimed, voice sweet but eyes glinting with trouble.

“You’re doing this on purpose,” Riku complained, trying to push Sora off half-heartedly. Yozora was entirely a lost cause, his center of gravity too low and his arms locked around Riku’s knee like a Search Ghost.

“No!” Sora gasped. He slapped his hands flat on Riku’s chest, grinning. “Never.”

“We just love you!” Yozora chimed in, giggling at being Sora’s partner in crime.

“I love you, too. Heaven knows why.” Riku gave up struggling and made an aggravated face at Sora instead; maybe pathos would do the trick where logic had no hold.

Sora only laughed at him. “Hey, it’s a good thing we can do magic, right? Waterga!”

Yozora shrieked in delight as a torrent of cold water suddenly poured down on them, doing little to the dirt on Riku’s robes but knocking his bun down so that his hair was hanging in his face.

“I have night astronomy class tonight, you know!” Riku growled, grabbing Sora in a headlock and roughing up his hair. He’d been hoping to have dinner with his family and then go back to his class without any drama, but that was definitely out now.

“Oops, sorry!” Sora apologized. Riku noogied him harder. “Ow! Hey, come on, leggo!”

“Shower,” Riku ordered again, releasing Sora with one hand at the same time as he scooped Yozora up with the other. He shoved Sora hard between the shoulder blades. “Now!”

Yozora and Sora stopped in the mudroom to wash off their hands and arms in the big utility sink, while Riku headed directly to the shower, stripping off his robes. He was still standing in the bathroom, examining the worst of the mud streaks on his sleeves and trying to decide if he should soak them in the sink or just spell the worst of it off, when Sora appeared behind him. Sora had stripped his shirt off in the mudroom, so when he wrapped arms around Riku’s back and leaned against him, his chest was gloriously warm against Riku’s back.

“Kiddo’s playing with his dinosaurs, so we’ve got a minute.” Sora pressed a kiss to Riku’s shoulderblade. “Want me to wash your hair?”

“Oh, now you want to be sweet, huh?” Riku dropped his robes in the sink and turned in Sora’s arms. He cupped Sora’s cheeks between his hands, squishing them a little. “You’re a menace.”

“And you still love me, that’s the worst part, isn’t it?” Sora pushed up to his toes to kiss Riku hello properly.

It lasted long enough that Sora’s cheeks were dusted pink and his eyes were liquid blue by the time Riku pulled back to murmur, “The worst. Any chance we have long enough for you to get in this shower with me?”

“Easy, easy,” Sora said breezily, stepping back to undo his belt and shuck his pants lazily to the floor with the jingle of unnecessary zippers. “You know your son and dinosaurs. Speaking of that, this morning i caught him having a dinosaur wedding for the T-rex and the pterodactyl. I asked him why not the other T-rex, and he looks up all serious and says because they wouldn’t be able to hug with their tiny arms.”

Riku laughed so hard he sagged against the sink, and Sora cracked up too, their laughter echoing off the bathroom tile.

“He gets that from you, you weirdo,” Riku pointed out as Sora pulled him into the shower and started fiddling with the knobs.

“Ohhh no, Mister ‘You’re My Light,’ he gets all that sap from yooAAAHHH!” Sora yelped as the water started colder than expected; a few steps back at a safe distance, Riku snickered. Sora tossed a baleful look over his shoulder. “Serves me right, right?”

“Mm, a little.” Riku crowded into Sora’s space now that the water was warmer. They didn’t have that much time, probably, and there was still dinner to make and Riku’s night class, but they’d gotten pretty good at being fast. “C’mere, I’ll kiss it better.”
