Title: Home is Where [Roxas, Lea, Xion]
Rating/Warnings: G
Summary: Seasalt Trio try to figure out where home should be.
AN: Written for shiritori. I never wrote more of this, but it was meant to explain how Roxas and Xion got the Twilight Town apartment.

Home is Where

Home was kind of a loaded word, so far as Roxas was concerned. It sounded easy when the others said it, like “time to go home” or “damn, I left that at home” but when Lea turned to him on the way down Yen Sid’s endless tower stairs to ask, “Ready to head home?” Roxas didn’t have an answer.

“Maybe if I knew where that was,” Roxas said. It came out more snappish than he meant it to, more worn out from Yen Sid’s long-winded explanations than he ever got from delivering satisfying keyblade beatings. Lea and Xion exchanged a look; it was the kind of look that Axel and Roxas had used to exchange about Xion, and Roxas wasn’t thrilled with it being used against him.

“Well,” Lea said, dialing up the cheerfulness in his voice a notch, “we could stay here. Or go back to Radiant Garden. Or take the train to Twilight Town. You’ve been to tons of worlds. What place feels right?”

“How should I know?” Roxas demanded. “How would I know what place felt like home when I’ve never been anywhere that was home?” Roxas glanced over at Xion. “What about you?”

She thought about it for six or seven steps, head tilted slightly to the side. When the hit the next landing, she shook her head. “I just want to be with you two, I think. I don’t think I care where.”

“So helpful,” Roxas told her. He looked back to Lea. “What about you?”

“Guess I’d have to say it’s Radiant Garden…” Lea scratched at the back of his head, frowning a little. “But I kinda feel like I need a break from there, so I’m with Xi. You pick it.”

“Uuuuugh,” Roxas groaned as they finally hit the bottom landing and stepped outside.

Out on the grass, Aqua was talking with Riku, Ventus hovering at her elbow. He waved when he noticed Lea and the others approaching. Roxas scowled and tried to jam his hands in his pockets out of habit, but since he wasn’t wearing his Organization robes any longer, he just fisted the air stupidly for a second.

“You’re welcome any time,” Aqua was telling Riku as they got close enough to hear. She turned her head to include Lea, Roxas, and Xion in the invitation. “That goes for you three as well. The Land of Departure has trained generations of keyblade wielders. I’m sure we could help immensely with your training.”

“Might take you up on that,” Lea said. “No offense to Merlin.”

“Indeed.” Aqua pursed her lips tight. “I have no idea how you all managed as much as you did without the guidance of any masters.”

“None on the outside, anyway,” Roxas commented, eyeing Riku. Riku’s lips pressed together almost as tight as Aqua’s.

Lea elbowed Roxas hard, making him grunt. “Play nice.”
